Senior recital today with these two, who both leave for university later this week! . . . Incredibly proud of my dedicated, invested, committed, and brilliantly talented students.

New garden
The project now complete, I can share photographic documentation of the new garden. Last week I had the walkway and zoysia grass removed. Fortunately for Maisie, the neighbors were away and she could lounge in their yard. Monday morning the crew started with installation of a new flagstone walk. They continued on Thursday with fescueContinue reading “New garden”
RENT
I saw Rent at The Muny this past weekend. I don’t find the show to be aging well. In conversations with others this week, I am finding general agreement with some of my thoughts on “why” the show doesn’t work as well as some other shows. Rent is very much a product of a certainContinue reading “RENT”
Muny Teens
Is there any better on-the-job training program in this country for musical theatre kids and teens than that at the Muny? Muny Kids and Muny Teens are a treasure, and even more so under the four-year direction of Tali Allen and the team she has assembled as music directors, choreographers, wranglers, and crew. The seniorContinue reading “Muny Teens”
Finally
Finally, success at the DMV! Mariele the Volvo has been an illegitimate chariot for the past few months. I purchased her outright in October, but had never titled her in my name rather than the name of Volvo Financial. My first visit to the DMV was foiled by an emissions inspection that was 11 daysContinue reading “Finally”
Scenes from a Sunday
Gigging at St. John’s, Tower Grove. Napping with Maisie. Eliot’s graduation party, of which I grabbed no photos. Rent at the Muny in Forest Park. Sunday was a satisfying day. Rent was a true cultural phenomenon at its premiere in 1996. I saw the first national tour, but was not at smitten with the showContinue reading “Scenes from a Sunday”
Erica & Charlie
Charlie Ingram was my voice student at Webster, and is one of those lifers I’ll keep close all my days. Erica Stephan is a Webster alum. She happens to be married to Charlie. And she is in RENT this week at the Muny. I got a blessed two hours with them on Sunday at SouthwestContinue reading “Erica & Charlie”
Discombobulated
Poor Mistress Maisie. She is so discombobulated! The Great Garden Redo of 2023 began Friday with demo. Maisie is not allowed in the garden until this project is finished, and of course the crew is not working on the weekend. So the back door to our house remains firmly closed. Maisie spends hours outdoors mostContinue reading “Discombobulated”
Happiness
Happiness is a watermelon in the fridge. More happiness will be the eating thereof. And, grabbed from a friend’s feed, here’s a gratuitous funny:
Hammerstein bio
I finished this book Monday on my flight back from NYC. Believe it or not, this was a quasi-page-turner! I’d get into a chapter and not want to stop. The author takes plenty of excursions: to Rodgers, to Sondheim, to Hammerstein’s grandfather, the “I” of the family. This was a fine read indeed. Here’s aContinue reading “Hammerstein bio”
