The new business cards arrived this week, so I guess this makes final my status as former Chair of the Department of Music at Webster University.

As the first week of classes at Webster University ended, and the Fall 2021 semester is underway, I’m close to finalizing my weekly schedule with voice students.
Disclaimer! — After 17 years of academic administration, I am determined to keep my Friday afternoons and Saturdays and Sundays open for me. Whether that’s travel or the art museum or another museum or cooking or gardening or sleep, the 48+ hours weekly of time where I am not “on” will be refreshing. For 17 years, I’ve worked nearly every day except for school breaks and July. Even then I checked email every day and put out fires and didn’t let my mind stray from school thoughts.
But in order to accomplish ‘weekends,’ the weekdays will be full!
Right now I am showing twelve and a half clock hours of lessons at Webster each week. These are voice lessons with musical theatre, piano performance, acting, and songwriting students, plus conducting lessons with music-directing students.
I also have a 9 a.m. MWF lecture-style class I teach.
The private studio is almost full (and may be by the time this blog entry posts, since I’m writing a couple of days ahead) with twelve hour-long lessons weekly, spread over MWTh. I may have another new student, and have three more possible returning students I’ve not heard from yet. They’ll have to get slotted in as space allows. First-come, first-served don’t you know!
And then there are three adult students I see from time to time, who will schedule spots as their own days and hours allow.
This is about as full as I wish to be! And the fact that it’s all done by 12.30 p.m. on Fridays means a) weekends!! and b) very full weekdays and evenings.
