Another school year begins today.
I’m in my 34th year of teaching voice and directing others in an ensemble.
I’ve completed and now said ciao to 17 years of academic administration.
And today begins my 23rd year of full-time college professoring.
The load the semester includes conducting, readings, and practicum courses in support of the Music Direction for Musical Theatre students. I have three new voice students for a total of 11 lessons weekly. And I’m teaching the final music theory course that musical theatre majors take at Webster.
It’s a full load!
My voice students from Webster Groves and St. Charles and Chesterfield right here in the metro area, from Seattle and Tulsa and suburban Washington D.C., from Springfield, Mo., from Wisconsin. Two are from Kansas. And one is from Norway.
I’ve been singing “I get to be a Professor, and not an Administrator” to anyone who will listen.
And I’m pumped to start this school year. Who knew that a 60-year-old professor could still be so giddy?
Here’s a pic from last week, in the office:
