I loaded an ironing board, a two-wheel truck, two boxes of odds and ends, and a few cleaning supplies into my car this afternoon. After a cup of tea with Virginia the Landlady, I turned in my keys and left 2039 Alfred Avenue for the last time as a tenant.
My first five months in Saint Louis centered at that lovely duplex. The house will be part of my experience here, and happily so. In one aspect, I’m sad to leave; in another, though, I delight in being finished with the transition.
Now, on this snowy evening, a fire in the fireplace, my dog napping on the sofa, my Sable safely in the garage out back, I’m at home and at peace at 25 Lawn Place, all of my worldly possessions here or at the office, many friends and loved ones nearby in Saint Louis and the surrounding hills, my family close by on the other side of the state.
‘Tis a most wonderful life indeed!
