This is how

This is how the pandemic keeps spreading:

I was at a major fund-raising event on Saturday, in St. Charles. I’m certain for many of the black-tie attendees, this gala was the first major social outing of its kind in many, many months.

But damn it. NO ONE except hotel staff and the Circus Harmony troupe wore a mask.

I wear a mask to help protect me, and to help protect others. The mask is not infallible; I myself am aware of how much of my air is escaping the sides. But the mask inhibits the forward propulsion of my possible tainted aerosols, and keeps my exhaled airstream from hitting someone with whom I’m speaking.

As such, the mask is better than nothing!

This Delta variant of the coronavirus is scary stuff. So-called ‘breakthrough’ infections are everywhere. Congress members. Musical colleagues in the Metro East. Even The Rev. Jesse Jackson and his wife.

People are playing with fire when they trot around unmasked, and playing with dynamite when they are doing so in crowded gathering spaces and ballrooms and such. This is how the virus spreads, people!

Here endeth the rant.
