We sang O thou, the central orb Sunday at church. I adore that anthem, and joy in singing that fabulous descending bass line near the close of the piece.
Our own physical central orb is shining brightly today. The blue sky is brilliant and crisp this morning, especially as viewed from my perch on the second-floor west porch at 25 Lawn Place. The pine three is glowing its own special shade of green, and past that the brick walls of SLU High give way to nothing but powder blue.
Webster has no power this morning, with a major power outage in the south city and into the county. Classes won’t begin until 10 a.m., and offices are closed until then as well.
Gateway Men’s Chorus sang last evening for the World AIDS Day memorial service at Christ Church Cathedral. This was my second community-involvement concert with the chorus. Our big holiday show is next weekend.
And speaking of power, I’ll need all I can get for the next few days. I’ve three concerts to conduct, five to attend, seven 2- to 3-hour rehearsals to go, and one meal to host – all in the next 12 days. I think I’ll have houseguests that final weekend as well. And then Webster hits finals, and juries, and sophomore barrier exams, so that week is obliterated already. Somewhere in here I need to finish unpacking, put up the tree, and enjoy the new home. This IS the life I’ve chosen, though, and I embrace it with vigor and gusto.
