K and I are safely in Amsterdam. Here are three scenes from the windward side of our houseboat on Prinsengracht:
Our flight was not without minor adventure. At O’Hare, the flight before at C9 (to San Francisco) was completely boarded, and then offloaded since the jet wasn’t working. Our gate was changed twice, since the SF jet was still at the original gate. We finally left an hour late, but no worries.
Once on board, a clearly wack-wack older lady from the other side of the tracks decided to leave the jet just before the cabin door closed. Her daughter left a moment later, in tears. Who pays for an international flight and then leaves the jet just before departure?
Then happened the fight for the two seats that had just been vacated. That’s another story for another day.
In any event, we arrived at 10 a.m. local time. Luggage arrived an hour later, so we had people-watching time. We then had to find the VIC at Schiphol airport, collect our IAMsterdam cards (three days of transit, three days of tourism), buy train tickets to Centraal Station, and then get on the #4 tram. And find the houseboat.
Now 1 p.m., it’s time for a shower, lunch, and exploring!
