The phone rings, with a Kansas City number on the display. While I generally don’t answer if I don’t know who it is, this one I answer.

And immediately: “Hello, is Kim there?”

“Sorry,” I say. “You have the wrong number.”

“Well maybe you can help me. This is Jim with the Missouri Association of State Troopers and Police . . . .”

At which point I hang up.

What’s wrong with this?

Well, this was an unsolicited fundraising call. On a Sunday.

But more importantly, this was a deceitful, sneaky, underhanded sales script.

Some police agency or brotherhood or union or someone purporting to be such is using a false lead-in to get my attention?

They should be ashamed.
