Norwich: St. Michael’s Tombland

Tombland is an area right beside our Norwich hotel, the Maid’s Head, which is in itself recognized as the oldest hotel in England.

Tombland, named from an old Saxon term meaning ‘open area’, used to be a cattle market and open pasture!

St. Michael’s Church, Tombland, dates from centuries ago, but is much altered.  I spent a lovely quarter-hour there on Saturday.
