To Norwich

Monday evening.  Our first Evensong at Norwich is over, after what seemed a whirlwind day.  We were up early, and departed the Heathrow hotel at 8.45 a.m., perfectly on time.  By 12.30 p.m. we were in Norwich.  I had lunch of a sandwich at the Cathedral refectory, and then went back to the hotel to book in.

My room is larger, with a double bed, thanks be to God.  We have, in typical British fashion, no air conditioning, and the weather is hot and muggy this week.

Rehearsal and Evensong were fine if not fantastic.  The new space, the hurried instructions, the heat — all led to a bit of muddle.

Here are some first shots of Norwich Cathedral:

Dinner at the hotel was delightful: salmon with lemon & dill sauce, carrots, roasted potatoes, Eton Mess, and a rosé Prosecco too.

I walked the streets near the hotel after dinner.  At 10.45 p.m., the last twilight has finally left the sky, and a brilliant full moon is glowing in the cloudless sky.

I’m going to like Norwich, I think.

Here are street scenes from my walk this evening, after 8.30 p.m.:
