While I was in Bolivar on Saturday, I took a few minutes to drive through Southwest Baptist University, where I studied for four years and then later worked for three years.
I had not been back to SBU for at least 20 years, and of course the campus has changed with the addition of many new buildings. It’s still not a pretty campus, but it holds many special memories for me. My time there inevitably shaped me, and the journey I walk today is a clear one that includes formation from and through SBU. It’s a paradox: I may not now buy much of what they stand for in politics or religious thought, yet I am who I am because of the people and my time at that school.
