On this gray Monday evening, I thought I’d share a few words of Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold, after hearing it so perfectly sung this evening by my colleague Martha Hart, in the setting by Samuel Barber.
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.
Not to worry — I am fine and in good spirits and health, but these words really grabbed me this evening.
