The 2012-13 school year officially ended today with Webster University’s 94th commencement exercises at The Muny in Forest Park.
God smiled today, and the weather was glorious.
Norbert Leo Butz, Webster alum and Tony Award winning actor, was the speaker. He kicked the speech out of the park. I don’t know when I’ve heard a better commencement address.
Dr. Douglas Major, Webster alum and former choirmaster/organist at the National Cathedral, was the distinguished alumnus of the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts. He too delivered a fine address to the assembled graduates.
This day was beautiful in many ways. One of my favorite students ever graduated today. The jazz band played with fervor. No one tripped on stage. Humor was evident in many places. The post-commencement luncheon at my boss’s house was a delight. Blue skies were a gift. I was surrounded by happiness today.
