The Right Reverend and Right Honorable, The Lord Carey of Clifton, 103rd Archbishop of Canterbury, was the preacher this morning at the Centennial Eucharist of the Church of Saint Michael and Saint George in Clayton, Missouri.
George Carey’s sermon was magnificent — humorous, meaningful, immediate, grounded, inspiring, and all at the same time.
The Choir sang Parry’s ‘I was glad,’ one of the proverbial ‘big sings’ of the choral repertory; Bruckner’s ‘Locus iste’; and the Stanford Te Deum in B-flat as the final hymn of praise.
This was a good day.
I met the Archbishop after the service:
And now I’m off to more mundane things, like seeing a performance of Jackie and Me with Kurt Hellerich in a leading role, and then a studio recital at school.
