The house is smelling of wonderful things right now.  I’ve made Spanish rice, and have spicy spoon bread and a chicken tortilla casserole ready to go in the oven.  The black beans have been cooking – with onion, green pepper, garlic, cumin, and a bay leaf – for several hours now.  And a pineapple cream pie is ready to be served.

Four Webster University students are arriving for dinner in 45 minutes.  Then we all go the Symphony tonight for Mahler 3.  The dinner is part of the four free tickets these good scholars scored this week.

I happen to think dinners like this make college more fun!

I live alone.  And I shop at Costco.

Staples this week included two kinds of beans, a half-case of canned pineapple, 3 lbs of coffee beans, a block of cheese, a jar of cashews, a box of crackers, vitamins, maintenance meds, unneeded dessert item #1, 12 oz of raspberries (how I love them!), chips, canned tuna and canned chicken.  And $14 in laundry detergent.  And Crown.

This will last me a while!

As $177.91 of food and supplies should.
