This day is Assumption Day, a major feast day for the Church.

Benedícta tu in muliéribus,
et benedíctus frúctus véntris túi, Iésus.
- Sáncta María, Máter Déi,
óra pro nóbis peccatóribus,
nunc et in hóra mórtis nóstrae.
- And from Palestrina:
Starting at 6 this morning, I worked up the last of the peaches this year. The result is 4.75 more pints of peach jam. I have a part of a runt half-pint that I’ll give today to my wonderful Jean at the office.
Truth be told, I still have peaches enough for two more batches. But . . . I’m out of time, and I’ve used enough sugar to feed a village, so I’m stopping and giving the peaches away. They need to be eaten or worked up!
So the tally: nearly 11 pints, and 24 half-pints, plus what I’ve eaten and put in my fridge (at least another pint there). And 20+ pounds of sugar, five pouches of pectin, and a fair amount of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
