God winks

My friend Darin in Dayton talks about ‘God winks,’ or those moments when you know you’ve just been touched by God.

I was in my office this morning ’round about 9.10 a.m.  The day had not started off well, and I was feeling pretty punky and beat up.

One of my freshman theory students sticks his head in the door.  “Dr. Carter, I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate what you do here, and do for us in your class.”  His statement was so simple, and so profoundly what I needed at that moment.

I blinked back tears.  God had just winked.

A prayer

O Lord God, whose blessed Son our Savior gave his back to the smiters and hid not his face from shame: Grant us grace to take joyfully the sufferings of the present time, in full assurance of the glory that shall be revealed; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one god, for ever and ever.

Amen.
