The Lamentation

Meanwhile, back at the Church of Saint Michael and Saint George, with the choir pretty darn fine form, the find of the day was the notoriously cranky Sir Edward Bairstow‘s The Lamentation, with text chosen form the Lamentations of Jeremiah.

The only YouTube I could find of this wonderful work sounds like a barnyard of disgruntlement, so I shan’t post it here.

But wow, what a simple and powerful work!

And here’s a link to a non-barnyard sound file that can be played free of charge.
