At 11 p.m., I’m just in from a very long and tiring day in service of the choral profession and the American Choral Directors Association.

I’ve had . . . we’ve had . . . a good day, though!

The plenary session commenced at 4 p.m., and included a very enlightening and informative presentation from ACDA’s archivist. From the applause, I’d venture that we all enjoyed and appreciated her hour with us.

After a great dinner of Tex-Mex from a local caterer, we piled into motor-coaches, then took a water taxi tour of the canal in Bricktown. I won’t do this again, but we had an entertaining hour.

That hour was followed by a sobering hour at the Murrah Memorial, where we heard Hans Butzer, one of the architects of the memorial, speak about its inception, design, and purpose. We listened intently, quietly, somberly. I have a couple of great pictures to post when I return to St. Louis,

The local art museum is showing Roman treasures from the Louvre right now. I enjoyed that exhibition tonight, but I enjoyed the Chihuly glass even more. Again, pictures to follow.

We finished out the night with cocktails on the rooftop garden of the art museum. Some of us were speaking tonight of our sense that ACDA has a new style.  We see it in little things, such as catered meals (nothing fancy, but filling), shuttle vans driven by ACDA staff members, an invitation from the local convention and visitors bureau to tak ein some local sight such as the Murrah memorial and the art museum.  This attention bodes well for the biennial convention here next March!
